    Quarter of webpage missing...

I've just got a new Dell laptop running XP and have come across a problem that I can't resolve.
Although when surfing the net, the window is fully displayed on screen, about a quarter of the webpage is missing. The page is showing its full content but it is all over to the left hand side of the window/screen and there is just a blank space on the right hand quarter of the window...no content is missing. (The screen is 15 inch and the resolution is set at 1280x1024.)
The only workaround I have been able to overcome this with is by customising the zoom tool at the bottom right hand corner of the screen to 165% to make the webpage fill the window more as it should do.
I know I should not have to do this and the zoom should just be 100%, but can anyone offer a solution as to why this is happening and how to rectify i

TIA for any help or advice.
    Cheers

    What is the Dell model?

Is this only a problem with IE? Does your Desktop fill the screen?

Have you tried lowering the screen resolution?

As it is a new computer have you tried contacting Dell?

Is the size of the page set really small. You can adjust the size in the lower right cornor by adjusting the %. Typically 100% is the right size.
