Trying to follow this example:

To disable automatic driver installation: Control Panel > System and
Maintenance > System > Tasks (side panel) > Advanced System Settings >
Hardware (tab) > Windows Update Driver Settings

but I dont get the tasks side panel, so I cant get into advance system settings.

I need to disable the automatic driver install that happens anytime you plug in a PnP device. I want to be able to choose the specific location for the drivers. Updating drivers is not an option. Windows will not let me change them and claims the best driver for the device has already been installed.

right click My Computer

click Properties

click Hardware

click Windows Update

No such thing exists. Running Windows Update causes my computer to freeze.

This might be a change in SP2. Not sure.
