Video Player on XP operating system

I'm having a problem with my Windows Media Player. I have windows XP and
have 2.39 G Hertz cpu with 1g of Ram. When I use the Windows Media Player
or any other......I find that shortly after I start using it, my cpu (task manager)
reachs 100% and the video and audio starts skipping or sputtering. I seldom use over 50% of my RAM. It use to work fine. Not sure what changed. Can use
    help me here.
    Thanks,
    Bruce

Is the player using the CPU or some other process?

I have a Dell Laptop Inspirion 1100. I assume the the video player is using the
CPU, but I don't have enough knowledge to answer your question.

Monitor the Task Manager / Processes tab

It shows what amount of CPU usage each and every individual process is using.
