I have just got Windows XP. The following message appears at any time e.g. when I go into outlook express for my emails or just when I am on a site playing cards etc. The message e.g. "internet explore has encountered a problem and need to close. We are sorry for this inconvenience." My question/query - can I get rid of this message somehow? I frequently run virus programme etc and there seems nothing wrong with any of my programmes.
Internet Explorer is crashing. Outlook Express is part of Internet Explorer.
When you say: "you just got XP" ... do you mean you upgraded to it or is this a new computer?
Do you have XP SP2? Do you have IE7?
ty for reply. This 65yr old just got another computer - my old one had windows 98 on it; but this one I was told is XP - and sadly I know very little else about it. When you say Internet Explorer is crashing - can I do anything about it and get rid this message that frequently comes up and will not allow me to carry on with whatever site I am at?
Go to start Run... and type: winver
This will show your Windows version.
You probably need to go to Windows Update via start > All Programs > Windows Update and take all Express or Critical updates.
Also check your IE version via pressing F1 with IE open.
If you do not have XP SP2 with IE7 then Windows Update will give you this.
See if this resolves your problems.
jephree I ty 4 your trouble. Trying to follow your instructions to the letter. from start/run/type - winver up came notice to say version 5.1 [hope this means something to you. when checking IE version via pressing F1; I seem to get all the help possibleexcept can`t find what version mine is. I have updated all Express and/or Critical updates. Fingers crossed all this may help me - and more importantly you for your suggestions/support. again ty
No problem. Let us know how it goes. As to IE version look for the Help or ? on the toolbar and click that then click About Internet Explorer.
See if this helps:

ty again; did what u said and its Internet Explorer 7; version 7.0.5730. Also downloaded everything express etc. now the message comes up stating "You chose to end the non responsive programme Outlook Express. The programme is not responding. Send error report/don`t send. I have sent so many error reports its surprising they don`t send them back to me![]()
Sometimes they do reply. :callme:
So your error is in Outlook Express. Gives us more to go on. Outlook Express is a part of Internet Explorer but they do not have to run together.
Turning off Outlook Express might help your IE work. You can always just turn on OE to check your e-mail.

eeeek; i have done all u suggest and now the annoying message comes up while I am playing card poker; again the same and it takes me back to desktop and I have to go back into poker and fingers crossed to see if it happens again - frequently it does - and in frustration I turn computer off and start from scratch. Sometimes this works; other times it doesn`t and the annoying message about a problem comes right back. I have not tried closing Outlook Express while using IE; how do I do that?![]()
