Smile windows xp home system restore disc

I was given a computer over a year ago, as a gift for some work i had done for a charity,

It was a Compaq Evo D300v.it had Windows xp home pre-installed and it came with a system restore disc which enabled me to restore my computer back to its original factory settings if i had problems.

However my computer crashed and it froze on me It wouldn't let me do anything, so I took it to a local computer shop and left it to be sorted when it came back it was working but it asked me to validate windows within 30 days.

When i keyed in the original number on the computer it wouldn't accept it so i telephoned the shop and they told me to bring it back down.

I collected it after 2 days and it was working Sometime later I had problems and tried to use the original restore disc and it wouldn't work and I still can't use it.

It is not the disc as it was brand new and did work before I put my computer in for repair when I went to the shop to speak to them they were closed up and it is no longer in business.

Can anyone advise me how or what i can do to get the disc to work as i am now needing to restore my computer back to its original factory settings.

Please is there anyone out there who can help

tried to use the original restore disc and it wouldn't work
that statement is not very helpful, give detail on "it wouldn't work" and we than might be able to give some advice.

    Sometime later I had problems
also give detail on problems, it might be related to restore cd not working.

I would guess that the shop installed their own OEM version of XP.

If this is the case your factory restore disk will no longer work as the shop essentially removed any record of the original settings.

All that being said you would need a new version of Windows.

You can also load a free operating system such as ubuntu
