    Is this a new problem? Did these apps ever work OK on this computer?

    Check your Event Viewer via Administrative Tools.

    Open the System as well as Application tabs and look for red X errors that coincide with your problem. Details here:

    How to view and manage event logs in Event Viewer in Windows XP

    Basic information on Event Viewer errors can be found here: EventID.Net

    There is no requirement to join EventID.net unless you want their advanced services. You put the # e.g. 1002 in the ID box then the source e.g. Dhcp

    http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?e...02&source=dhcp

    Some network error occurred there.

    http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?e...System&phase=1

    System Error=1003= some driver depending on the details of the error which should be in the Event Viewer under Details > Double click the Error line and read the description therein.

    Server=2505= another Network error:

    http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?e...Server&phase=1

    IdeChnDr=9 = an IDE controller error/ hardware/ drives:

    http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?e...eChnDr&phase=1

    Cdrom=11 = CD drive error possibly connected to the above IDE error:

    http://www.eventid.net/display.asp?e...=CdRom&phase=1

    Check your cables and your DMA/PIO settings as seen here:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310751

    All that being said if this is a new problem try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem:

    start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
