    I cant find it either

Are you sure that is the .dll "metwain"?

TWAIN is an acronym for "Technology Without An Interesting Name."
Often associated with scanners and cameras.

Do you get any detail about your Local Area Connection error?

Thanks for the repy...Yes there is a Local Network connection error. I have chosen the automatic repair/fix but it is unable to fix itself. Things seem to be working though.

Do you still get the "metwain" error?

    What I meant about the LAN connection error is that usually there is more to it;
(such as) "Cable unplugged" or some subsequent error detail.

Also you can rt. click "my computer" & choose "manage" then "event viewer" then browse thru the 3 tabs & look for Red X's (errors).

    I did find a twain.dll as well as a twain_32.dll
If either of these is what you are missing they can be downloaded from:

    .dll dump

    Yes RunDLL
    Error loading \windows\metwain.dll
The specified module could not be found.

The Local area connection says it is limited or no connection but everything seems to work.
I have tried the automatic fix but it is unable to find the computer name.

Have just tried looking at the event viewer as you suggested. Lots of Application error events, security center, also under System errors under W32Time and service control manager.

Do you know what the metwain.dll module does ?
Have run lots of virus scans, spyware, event Registry mechanic.
    Frustrating

    Are you on a network?
If not you can just turn off that connection.

As far as metwain.dll; I cannot find any trace of its' existence outside of your posts.
Do you have a scanner? Camera? Have you searched your computer for it?

I know it would be tedious but if you start double clicking those errors in Event Viewer you will get the details. Maybe you can narrow them down by repitition on startup. & post some?

No I am not on a network. Just a home pc shared with two sons !
Not sure how i would turn off the network you mention.
Yes have searched all drives for the missing file.
I have no scanner buy three different digital cameras talk to the compter.
Have had a quick look at double clicking the errors in My computer manager.
    Thank you for being persistant.
If i cannot fix it then longer term I may reformat the drive and load up fresh again.

As to the network connection go to control panel & open "Network Connections" > "Local Area Connection" and disable it.

As to "metwain" I can just repeat that "twain" dll's are associated with cameras. Have you installed particular software to go with your cameras?
Perhaps if the camera has its' own program, that may need to be re-installed

When/ If you get to the point of repairing the whole system here are 2 good guides:

Many thanks for all your advice.
The links to other topics were very good.
I may well be upgrading the motherboards now anyway so a rebuild of the system will be done.
    Again..Thank you
