Yes I found that. There are no disks and I can't get anything to come up to check the bios or whatever it said to check.

The BIOS is the Basic In Out System of a computer. It is what starts when you power on before any operating system loads. Most BIOS Setups are accessed by pressing the Delete key after powering on the computer.

You most likely will need a Recovery CD. What is the make and model of the computer? Did they not supply a Recovery CD?

I tried to do a download on the internet that went on to a floppy and then it was supposed to fix it when it loaded but it didn't work. I have a Gateway computer. I can check I am sure I have something. So do I just put in the recovery cd?

I am unable to locate my system restore disk. I found the operating system cd is that the same? I am unsure what to do because it says if I reinstall the operating system I will lose everything. This is what I am trying to prevent. Any other suggestions?

You can slave the drive in another computer to extract your data prior to restoring in the original computer.

Microsoft XP CD's have a Repair option which does not delete data but apparently the Gateway CD does not have this option.
