Windows XP advanced installation setup... or somthing like that...
Hey, I hope I have found a good place to post this...
I replaced the modem in my E-machines computer about a year ago, and when I went to reinstall windows XP, it hung on the "nameing the computer screen" I called tech support, and there was somthing really simple I had to do to get an alternate setup screen that allowed me to bypass that step. Does anyone know what I'm refering to and how to do it again? I think I had to hold somthing down, but I can't remember what I was.
Many thanks in advance.
Andy

I have never heard of a way to skip that step but then this is an eMachine CD you are using: is that correct?
Perhaps there is something in the manual or you could e-mail them:

How does it hang? Can you type in the boxes? Is the Next button not active?

Yes, it is an Emachine CD. I'm guessing thats the only reason the none original modem matters? Anyway, I guess I'll have to go to tech support again. I just thought mabey it was a well know trick among more vetern users, but mabey it was just an emachines thing. Anyway, thank you for the reply!
edit - it allows me to fill in the name box, then when I hit next, or skip, the hourglass comes up and I can't do anything.

Andy,
I have the same issue with my emachine. http://www.techhelpforum.com/showthr...ighlight=T2858
You can try Jazzmans suggestion of pulling the modem and uninstalling it from device manager before installing XP.
If you come across that work around about holding something down to bypass that step...would you post it here please.
Thanks and Good Luck
