Restart driving me nuts!
Hi.
Just lately my 'puter has been shutting down and restarting for no reason. If I leave it on a download i can return to find it logged off and restarted. Sometimes I can click the mouse on anoth page down the bottom and the mouse click is the trigger for a restart.
At any time I may have six windows open and going between them but now I'm paranoid! I had the monitor on 20min sleep but just moving the mouse to awaken it was enough.
I recently had a corruption of Win XP (hal) on C drive and reloaded XP to D drive which I'm now using as the default drive.
Any hints?

Having XP on any drive other than C: is going to cause major problems.
I would suggest reinstalling and make sure C: is the destination for XP.

Thanks - but that raises another issue - how to retrieve XP on C. Its missing hal ... and after than more missing necessary files. It won't repair and all my stuff is on C.
Any suggestions apart from xfer everything and clean install?
:dunce:
-
Slave the drive on another computer and extract pertinent data then return it and Clean Install.
-
Surely I can just move it all to D. And clean install to C then move it back..
simple procedure but tedious in practice.

For data yes. Programs cannot be moved as such under either scenario.
That is the whole C: root issue as that is where the registry is expected to be.
Programs will need to be reinstalled either way but data can be moved.
