Forced to use Safe-Mode
Recently my laptop has been abit slow but i didnt pay much attention to it, but it suddenly went to a blue screen for about one second with a bunch of text and i managed to catch some of it sayin something about dumping.
Then after that, i have tried to start windows and i get past the user log in screen but then it becomes extremely slow and after a while it just locks up. Now, if i leave it like that for a long time, when i come back, i find that it has reverted back to the user log on screen, maybe restarted itself, but there was also a message called "savedump.exe". If i remenber correctly, i said it could not quit savedump correctly, something like that. I have seen that warning thing a bunch of times now, and i cant access normal windows, right now im using safe mode, which is the only way i can use my laptop at this time.
I have tried to use the System Restore option but it always says it has failed at the end. I dunno what to do and i cant find the xp cd, dont even remenber if the pc came with it. I been running the pc in safe mode for weeks now.
Please help me, i would appreciate it greatly!!!

What is the make and model of the laptop?
If it did not come with recovery disks there is perhaps a recovery partition on the hard drive with a hotkey access. Otherwise you will probably need to get recovery disks.
Does it have a floppy drive?
Can you get on-line with Safe Mode with Networking option?

Windows XP
Version 2002
Service Pack 2
HP
AMD Athlon, XP Proccesor
2800+
797 MHz, 512 RAM
I dont think it has a recovery partition, well i entered into the f10 menu and i didnt find any mention of that. No floppy drive. Also, the savedump.exe message didnt say the program quit wrong, but that savedump.exe didnt start correctly.
Am I screwed?? :nervous:

What is the HP model and #?
Can you get into Safe Mode with Networking?
Can you get on-line?
Are you familiar with msconfig? If so go to start Run... msconfig | Startup
Look for a line that looks like this:
[KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k
Uncheck it from starting and see if the dump errors stop.
