    random restarting

My computer keeps restarting. I thought I could temporarily bypass this problem by going to "startup and recovery" and unchecking the "automatically restart" button, but the problem remains. The only change is a blue screen appears that talks about "if this is the first time you've seen this restat you computer, if you've seen this before, get technical help." Then it says one of the following:
    -win32k.sys
    -nv4_disp.dll
    -IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
    -page_fault_in_nonpaged_area
-An attempt was made to excute non-excutable memory
    -tcpip.sys

When the computer eventually restarts, I can send an error report to microsoft. If they have a solution (50% of the time), it tells me to try updating some drivers or that one or more of my drivers isn't meant for XP. All of my drivers came on the computer when I bought it from Future Shop, and for the new video card I just installed I used the most recent version of the online drivers from http://www.nvidia.com. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone have a solution?

Has this issue just appeared with your new Video Card?

If so did you uninstall your previous Video drivers prior to installing the new?

    Driver Installation Hints

"Download Accelerator" utilities should be disabled when downloading any drivers.

Do not run virus protection software in the background while installing the drivers. This prevents the driver from configuring itself properly.

Before installing new drivers make sure you uninstall all NVIDIA display drivers from the Windows Control Panel. Browse to the Start Menu > Windows Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and search for "NVIDIA Windows Display Drivers" or "NVIDIA Display Drivers" and select remove.

The computer has been restarting for a long time now, even before we got the new video card. Microsoft keeps saying (sometimes) its some device driver. Once today they told me it was the video adapter driver, which I did update..didn't help.

When you update your Video Driver are you uninstalling the old one first?

This is best done by downloading and Saving the new driver to your hard drive and then booting into Safe Mode:

After the power-on and BIOS POST or your Logo screen repeatedly tap the F8 key or hold the Ctrl key before Windows starts.

Here you can go to the Device Manager and Uninstall the current driver under Display adapters then Install the new.

    start Run... devmgmt.msc

    Also:

How old is the computer? What is the make and model?

Do you know the wattage of your Power Supply?

    Also:

Go to start | search (type in) .dmp
Note the location of your .dmp files.

    Then:

    1) Download and install the
    Debugging Tools from Microsoft
    2) Download and install this
    debugwiz
    3) Open the Wiz & Browse to, or paste in the path to, your .dmp file.
    4) After the Wiz creates a Text document attach it back to this thread.

    Current release.

I would assume the 32 bit unless you knowingly have XP Pro 64.

You can verify this by right clicking My Computer then click Properties.

Just to verify: You were using the DeBug Wiz? You cannot open directly from the debugging Tools (Hence the Wiz which is a command batch).

That being said: if you were using the Wiz are you logged on as the Administrator? If not or unsure the next time you load into Safe Mode Log on to the Administrator account. If you get a Welcome Screen press Ctrl > Alt > Delete (holding each in succession) twice in a row. This should bring up a logon box. Here type Administrator

If you have not set a Password for this account just leave the Password blank and hit Enter. Then try the Wiz again.
