    My cd/rw tray won't open

I went into Sony FAQ and it said that some software does this.
It mentioned a particular wizzard that has a "c/d open" icon
    on the tool bar.
I E'd Sony and they said my computer(PCV-RX550) needed service
    but I don't think so.

    Please help

Is this a new problem? Were things working OK previously? Any new hardware or software?

If this is a new problem try a System Restore to a point prior to the problem:

start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore

    Also:

Have you tried right clicking the drive under My Computer then Eject?

Also most drives have a pin-hole on the face that when you insert a pin will manually open the tray.

I tried restore, also eject. There is no pin hole in the Sony tray cover.
I'm thinking about buying an external cd/rw.

    Any other suggestions? Thanks

The problem with an external drive is that you won't be able to boot from it.

This means that you would lose the ability to boot from CD's.

It would probably be cheaper and more desirable to replace the internal drive.

It is very easy to do and we can help you through the process if needed.

This is assuming that the computer is out of warranty. Otherwise if there is a warranty take it back to the retailer or Sony.

The restore I did last night must have done the trick.
This morning when I booted up, the tray opened on
command and I loaded some pictures.

    Thank you.
