internet sound help
First of all, thank yous all for your help with my other problem.
However there still remains a problem with not being able to hear sounds on internet.
when i go to control panel>sound>
if i click on the audio tab, and try to change the bottom box to 'midi driver' or 'wavesynth', when i close and re-open it, It has reverted back to its original settings.
Same goes for voice tab , except this time the top drop down box is left blank. When i try to put on my sound card, again it reverts back to being empty.
I can play sound perfect on my computer, just not with browsers.
Could you please assist with this?
Cheers

If you're using IE, open IE, click on the TOOLS tab, Internet Options, Advanced. Scroll down to MULTIMEDIA. Is there a check mark in the "Play sounds in web pages" box?

hi
thanks for your help
yeah ive already done that, any other suggestions...

Is your sound device onboard or a seperate PCI or ISA card?
Do you have the software media (drivers CD) for your sound device?
Have you tried reloading drivers for your sound device as opposed to XP "stock" drivers?
In Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, Audio, Advanced, Performance try slowing down the hardware acceleration. Same for Control Panel, Sounds and Audio Devices, Voice, Advanced, Performance.
Download, install, and run Everest Home Edition on this machine. (Clean FreeWare) Once it's finished loading and running, look under Computer, Summary, Multimedia, or, under Multimedia, PCI / PnP Audio. This will tell you what sound devices you have available on your system. Post that information.

Hmmmm.... I gather you've triple checked all your browser settings....? (Maybe moot, but worth mentioning.) And you're getting "system" sounds etc so that verifies your hardware.
"Same goes for voice tab , except this time the top drop down box is left blank. When i try to put on my sound card, again it reverts back to being empty."
If you're getting "blanks" in the settings boxes it would appear that drivers are not either 1) loaded, or 2) not loaded correctly.
So this is apparently an *onboard* sound device as opposed to an add on (PCI/ISA) peripheral card in a mobo slot? (You didn't specify.)
VIA AC 97 is an old sound device, and XP shouldn't have any problems with drivers/operation.
I have an old (Intel) RealTek driver file (RealTek wdm_a345.exe) you could try. If it doesn't work simply remove it.
OK, tried to upload, and it probably exceeds the upload quota (size) for this site. D-A-L has upped my quota on the D-A-L site for purposes such as this, but I'll have to approch him on this for this site. If you want it and can't find it on the net, (6.278KB) I can upload it to my webspace for download. I have only 25MB there, so I may have to remove files to make room for it, so if you want it, let me know, then I'll upload it. Once I have, please let me know that you've grabbed it so I can then remove it to reclaim the space and add my files back.
I also have an AC97 (WOLFSON) driver package which may work, but it's for a specific mobo chipset. *

I gather you've triple checked all your browser settings....?
I have tried to change the advanced settings, but when I go into the 'advanced' tab in the IE 'tools' dropdown, it is blank for some reason, any idea about that?
Yeah it is an onboard chip, I have no other cards installed.
I have an old (Intel) RealTek driver file (RealTek wdm_a345.exe) you could try. If it doesn't work simply remove it.
I have downloaded this, still no cigar. Would i need to uninstall the current installed driver? Or does this automatically install itself over the top?
cheers

Are you using a limited account? I would reinstall Internet Explorer. However, I'm notorious for aggressive registry editing. You may want to wait for further advice before doing the following.
To do this you must edit the registry to prevent the "Setup has detected a newer version of Internet Explorer already installed on this system. Setup cannot continue" error from occuring. Instructions can be found here;
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/318378
You'll have to logged on with Administrator privileges.
CAVEAT - "Important. After you use the procedures in this article, you must reinstall any updates to Windows XP again. To reinstall Windows XP updates, visit the following Microsoft Windows Update Web site:
