i can play a purchased dvd but not a dvd recorded by myself.can you help as i want to copy old holiday videos on to dvd for future playing?

What DVD software are you using?

Do you get any error message?

Does XP recognize the disk?

What exactly happens?

i am new to computing so please forgive any errors.
when i insert a re corded rw disc that plays on my dvd into the cmputer it shows NO DISC. but the computer accepts & plays a purchased dvd.
any help will be appreciatd
