    a total nightmare

Hi all I've just joined this forum hope someone out there can help me.

I was running windows me on my hp and my daughter wanted the internet on so i went and purchesed a belkin router and wirless usb adapter. I put the router on my computer downstairs with the adsl modem and took the usb adapter upstairs the hp, i followed the instructions and installed the software but nothing happened so i rang belkin and he said i had to update the drivers and they might of been old so i did, then i installed that on the hp and then proceeded to re-install the belkin software but again no luck.

I decided to install windows xp OVER THE TOP OF ME which i was told i could do and since my computer was running downstairs on it i had a copy, so i put the disk in and did the installation everything seem to go ok as much as i understood anyway so the next day i tried to install the software for the usb adapter and everything was going ok and then it asked me to plug the usb adapter in so i did BUT nothing else happened the new hardware screen whichs appears down the bottom right hand side never came up and it didn't detect the usb adapter so i carn't get the internet on this machine because the new hardware screen does not come up, i have since installed the printer back on so i know it is working ok.

Please has anybody got any idea at all, and if so can you make it as simple as possible as i am not a computer person.

    Thankyou Kluger

    Hi Brain Damager,

The router is connected to the modem via the ethernet cable.

The PC is connected to the router via ethernet cable too.

We have a lap top running on the boradband with no trouble this has centrino so it is wirless.

    Thanks kluger
