    Cd Rw

    Sirs:
I have 2 CD drives in my computer that I save data to as back up. Every once in a while everything goes haywire and I can no longer save or change anything on the CD. The CD's suddenly show that they are full and the properties tell me that they are "Read Only."

I think I have isolated the problem to the CD's themselves, or rather, to the software that does the copying - the fault does not seem to be in the hardware (the drives).

I think there is a conflict between Microsoft XP and the Nero software.

I don't like the XP software because I prefer to "drag and drop" and forget it.

XP stores the data somewhere and I have to go through something made by Roxio to actually get it on the disc.

Nero (I think) allows me to simply copy to the disc and that's the end of it.

If I am correct, and there is a software conflict that comes up whenever it feels like it to destroy my disc, how do I get rid of it?

I suppose I could use a memory stick or two, but I don't know if I would have the same problem or not

Thank you for whatever help you can provide - even if it's none.

    Hi Jack,

I have had similar problems in the past myself, and I solved the "conflict"; yes, I believe there is a conflict unless you buy the latest burning software.

Go to start->run->type in "msconfig" and stop Nero Ahead, and anything associtated with this program from starting when you boot up.

It can all be started manually. I feel the conflict starts at actual "startup".

Try this and see how it works out; it stopped my conflicts immediately.
