Can't reset screen resolution

    Angry Can't reset screen resolution

Hi, wise ones, I hope you can help

After finding that my dvd drive was not showing up on my desk top, I repaired the problem following some advice from Microsoft - I had to reset some values in the registry - the cd / dvd Icon has come back and the drive works as normal. However, since doing this repair the screen resolution cannot be set above 640 x 480 no matter what I try and do.
I have checked drivers and adapter settings - as set out in the "troubleshooter" section - all to no avail.

Is there something else I can do to reset the screen resolution to say 800 x 600? I do hope there is an easy fix somewhere.

Many thanks in advance of help.

    Terry Woodward

is your graphics on board or a card?

have you tried device manager to look at the video and see if there's a driver problem

    Hello,

I think the graphics card is OK as the problem of the screen resolution, which started klast week, was sorted by a work colleague on Friday - but my fiddling to get the DVD Icon to appear seemed to undo the repars my buddy did - which I did not really understand.

He did something to reset things - by accessing something via the device manager route.

There was nothing wrong physically - he just reset a few things and the screen resolution worked perfectly for a few hours until I did some editing of the registry - after this, the problem returned.

The trouble is only seen on my Compaq Evo N600 laptop

I have not actually looked at the device manager (the video driver bit I assume) to see if there's a driver problem. Where will I find this and what does it require? Please let me know what you think.

    Cheers

if you look in the device manager at the video card have a look for a yellow question mark.

    Hi again, good evening

I have the device manager open but cannot see the video card. Where should it be? The list starts with batteries and end with USB Controllers.

Where will I find the video card?

    Hi again

I have to log-off now so will pick up the thread tomorrow.

I found where the video card might have to be, but could not see anything that looked as if it was not working.

    More tomorrow no doubt.

    Cheers

Hi for the last time as I have just seen your message.

I could not see it under display adapters - all that was in there was the ATI Mobility Radeon - that did not say anything else. It did say the device was working OK.

I do have to sign off now - so be in touch tomorrow.

    Cheers
