Hi,
I was wondering if you could help me.
Im not sure if you need these details to help but, I have an ac97 sound card, and I am running XP
Recently, I have been having problems with getting sound from my machine, and recording with it.
It was working fine, then suddenly it has started playing up. I can no longer hear sounds off websites when I am using Internet Exporer, and I can no longer record using Audacity or WaveStudio.
When I am using Audacity, if I press record I get some error involving 'I/O'. However when I am using Wave studio, if I press record, I get a completely different error involving 'Audio Device ID being out of range'.
What does this mean? I have been searching the internet, but to no avail.
I have tried installing different drivers for it, and going into:
'control panel/sound and audio devices/' and clicking on the audio tab. I then tried changing the default voice playback and voice recording boxes. But once you click 'apply' and 'close the box' and then reopen it, the boxes change back to what they were.' I don’t know if this has anything to do with it at all, I've just tried everything I can think of.
If you could help me, or let me know who I can get help off, it would be much appreciated.
If possible could you please email your reply to mr_l3rightside@nospamhotmail.com
Cheers

Hi Jarred,
Firstly, I have had similar problems and fixed them most times by uninstalling and reinstalling the driver for the ac97 sound card.
It is also possible that some of XP's system files are messed up and need replacing.
You could also now have put in different drivers that are totally incompatible for "your" card and PC.
I suggest you uninstall all the drivers you have put in for this device and then download the latest driver and install ONLY that particular driver; which I am quite sure is "realtek".
It also would not hurt to type into "run" sfc /scannow [note the space between the c and the / ], and have your winxp disc ready as the system file checker will make sure all files are in their correct place.
Go to microsoft updates immediately after doing this and you may find a few things will need to be reinstalled.
If you are unsure about drivers, download this free program ....

Feel free to post it here, but please remove any serial numbers and personal data. This program tells all about your PC and the drivers it requires.
Your Audi reverting back to a prior setting is what makes me think windows "may" be a little messed up.
Please let us know how you go.

:scatter: Hi there,
First of all, thak yous for you help.
I managed to be able to record now, Although i'm using another program. I also removed all traces of that C-media driver i had installed, which seemed to keep re-appearing till i delted it off the reg.
the problem still remains with the not being able to hear sounds on internet.
when i go to control panel>sound>
if i click on the audio tab, and try to change the bottom box to 'midi driver' or 'wavesynth', when i close and re-open it, It has reverted back to its original settings.
Same goes for voice tab , except this time the top drop down box is left blank. When i try to put on my sound card, again it reverts back to being empty.
I can play sound perfect on my computer, just not with browsers.
Could you please assist with this?
Cheers
