    Direct3D problem

New here so hope I am doing this correctly. Having trouble playing some arcade games. Have the latest DirectX but when I check through dxdiag I find that in Display my Direct3D functionality is not available. I have a Celeron 2.67 GHz with 512 RAM running Windows XP with SP2. My video card is NVidiaGeForce6200 128 MB.
    Hoping someone can help

    Your DirectX is 9.0c?

Do you know if your 3D functionality ever worked?

Do you have the latest nVidia drivers?

    Also note the installation advice:

    Driver Installation Hints

"Download Accelerator" utilities should be disabled when downloading any drivers.

Do not run virus protection software in the background while installing the drivers. This prevents the driver from configuring itself properly.

Before installing new drivers make sure you uninstall all NVIDIA display drivers from the Windows Control Panel. Browse to the Start Menu > Windows Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and search for "NVIDIA Windows Display Drivers" or "NVIDIA Display Drivers" and select remove.

Yes, it is DirectX 9 and no, I don't know if it ever worked. Who or where sets this function up?
Have not come across this problem until just recently. My video card is new (3weeks ago) so should? have up to date drivers. I will follow your instructions about the drivers but will wait until I find out about Direct3D functionality.
    Thank you

If your card supports the 3D functionality and has the latest drivers then it should set automatically.

Just another thought: when you changed cards did you uninstall the old/previous drivers?

I only had onboard graphics before and the card was installed by my computer store. Will try uninstalling the old and reinstalling the latest drivers and then see what happens. Thanks for your help

Make sure that your on-board graphics is disabled in both the Device manager and in the BIOS.

If you need further instructions on this please ask.

Yes, please. I had a look in Device manager and the graphics only point to NVidia. Don't know about the bios and what I am looking for. Downloading the latest driver did not help.
    Thanks again

Under the Device Manager > Display adapters: there is only the nVidia card? Nothing else listed?

As to the BIOS it depends on the motherboard. With most you access the BIOS Setup by pressing the Delete key as soon as you power on the computer.

With some HP or Compaq the hotkey is F2.

In the Setup there will be a setting to choose between onboard VGA and AGP. The exact path to this will depend on the BIOS. What needs to be done (if it hasn't) is to disable the onboard VGA.

What is the make and model of the computer?
