well thanks so much...at least I can use the computer in safe mode, it seems to work just fine in safe mode...but is there a precaution I should take, a program I shouldnt run?

Safe Mode just loads the minimum XP drivers required to run XP.

Therefore most obviously your Graphics Drivers are not running.

I would suggest waiting a day to see if your HijackThis log is responded to.
