    power up issue

    Hi,

I have a Compaq amd athlon 1.47 gb series 1700 desktop computer that has been down for awhile and want to try and get it fixed.

Here's the deal... after turning on the power supply.. the power led will blink yellow constantly,,then if you press the power on button it will turn green indicating power up but upon immediately releasing the button it will go back to blinking. If you hold the button in the computer will begin to function "begin" I said. the cpu fan will spin up the hard drive will begin to undock with an audible "click" then about 3-4 seconds later it will just completely power down.

I have....completely gutted this case leaving only a ram card, motheboard and processor and integrated pieces obviously. I have tried plugging in a hard drive to boot it and then I have tried a CD rom leaving everything else out. the hard drive will boot in another atx machine. the power supply was also replaced with a new one with identical results. I am thinking a bios crash or cpu failure. anybody care to take a guess or share some insight..thanks

perhaps if we an identify the Motherbord we may be able to identify what the yellow flash is, do you have the full model number, or a serial number on a sticker on the back. post back with details if possible.

    Cheers

Not too sure if this is any help, but look at this from Compac, a couple of steps that you have not taken, the flashing in this support document seems to point to the power supply http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...cname=bph06788

    Hope this helps
