    XP wont start

Hi, I need an expert to point me in the right direction! When I press the on button the computer starts up like normal, the keyboad lights flash, the CD,DVD flash then the A flashes stops and you see the HD light go on and hear it go into 'gear.' Trouble is nothing happens after that and it just re-boots and goes through the same, again and again. Also the monitor stays blank, nothing is displayed! The last thing to happen on the computer was an error saying Windows would not load (I did not see the error message.)I would say the monitor is working, the light is on and if I pull the cable it says no signal.I've checked cables outside and inside, theres no apparent damage to boards nothing black, or components bulging or anything loose and I've cleared all dust.I've searched of course but can only find it happening at the Welcome screen, but like I said the screen is just blank.xphome

Kollos, can you get into safe mode? If you can, try disabling everything unecessary to startup by going to start/run/"msconfig"

The only other thing is that somehow you may have corrupted your registry. Have you considered putting in the WinXP CD and trying a repair install. If it is able to be repaired XP will grant you that option. Even if only to get in there and save your data.

I am curious to know if you installed IE.7. This same thing happened to me and the only thing I could put it down to was IE.7 beta. I ended up reformatting and NO IE7.

It hard to do anything with this, I cannot even get a cursor.Putting in the disc just slows the re-booting from every 20 secs to every 1 min, so something different is happening but I cant see what going on - very infuriating!>IE7No I havent got my mits on it yet, its a machine given to me to complete a home network and was going in the kids room.Ive tried different recovery disks, and now have been promised one that'll 'do the trick' from a computer maintainance guy soon - well have to see if it works!I thought if I post someone might of had this no screen problem and may be able to give advice - I just cant find anything. Only thing I know about the machine is its a XP 1.0 with no service packs.

Kollos, do you know anything about the BIOS in a PC? It may be that this needs resetting, but I am not quite comfortable with giving out the "how to" if you have no experience inside an actual PC case.

Well its been a sharp learning curve this last year. My resident expert bro has gone travelling so I've really HAD to learn it myself. BIOS, I know what it is, where and what you can do in it, but...I'm really stuck with no screen, cursor, nothing! I'm gonna check it out again tomorrow, its gotta be something simple. I presume I gotta see what I'm doing to fix it?
