hi i have brand new computer when i went to click on my updates for adobe reader it told me the resourse was unavalible. so i called sony and the girl sent me to run msconfig and disable my updates i informed her i paid alot for this computer and i want every update i can get, then seeing i wasn't happy she had me reinstall which led to the same problem although there is nothing wrong with the actual program. I asked if the problem could be a deeper problem seeing she was going to half way fix it until i said something. she said the only other thing it could be was a registy problem. but i would have errors. i had a really bad feeling about that so i decided to play on it seeing it hadn't really been used. i went to go copy some files i had saved in my e mail from a long time ago text only messages from family. internet exploer gave me an error saying it had to close then i tried again a dr. watson error i chose not to send and shut the computer down which ended up freezing. i am very worried. So i ran my ani virus and 2 spy ware programs after calling a friend, it came up clean i ran them a more than once to make sure although i haven't downloaded a single thing
my fear is i want to know if it is a registy problem is there is a program i could run to find out if there is more than one registry problem before calling sony back seeing it will take me awhile to learn to use all the programs i have i would rather know sooner than later and secondly how do you get registry problems on a brand new computer could it have come with them and is that a serious issue. is there anything i should about these types of problems or dealing with tech support on this issue i am clueless when it comes to registry stuff. i asked the lady i was speaking with whom gave me instructions to check my hardware 4 problems but couldn't tell me how to check for software problems. please help any advice would be nice. thanks
You can check useing windows Help+Support
Start / Help + Support / under Pick a Task - select Use Tools to view your computer information + diagnose problems / Select Advance System Information / View Error log. I would check my warranty from Sony to see if you have on site assistance. There are programes that will check and restore your registry, but useing them may invalidate your warranty. I use CCleaner ( free ) you could use it to check without running it to clean your registry.
You can print off your error log and use it when you call Sony.
Someone may have a better solution, if you need any more assistance just post back

While every new computer should work perfectly straight from the box, sometimes it doesn't happen like that :? I have an Emachines desktop computer with a fault in the search function that has been there since day 1 and no amount of re-installs have helped.
For your problem i would go to the Adobe website by clicking Here and download the latest version version of Adobe Reader. Follow the instructions to install it.
Now one of two things will happen. The installation will write over the copy you have now, replacing any corrupt files with fresh ones. Alternatively you might be asked to uninstall the copy you have on your computer. Then you can run the install again.
This should clear up the Adobe Reader problem
Now you can go to start --> Run. Type: sfc /scannow (note the space after sfc). This will launch the system file checker. It will check your system for any files that are corrupt/broken and try to fix/replace them. There is a chance you will be asked to insert your XP CD during this scan.
A fresh install 'shouldn't have any registry problems at all. During the installation process a brand new registry is installed.
RE: Tech Support...
In my experience tech support can be a waste of time. If you are lucky you will speak to someone who knows about computers. If you aren't lucky you could end up with someone just reading off a screen and not fully understanding what they are even saying :?

This probably deserves a thread on its own but if you use sfc and your asked for your CD(may not be handy) and confident in the registry, this page has helped me. http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.htmlOriginally Posted by Vidster
