    Missing Regristry File

When I now start my computer (Windows XP) I get a message that tells me that there is a missing file in the regristry C:\windows\inet20002\services.exe. I click okay and then another box comes up and tells me the program could not load or run because the specific file could not be found. Can someone tell me what this file is and how I can get it back?
    Please help!

    John

Welcome to the forum john long

I have a feeling this is an installed program and not part of the operating system. I'm not familiar with what program it could be though at the minute.
Firstly, to remove any chance of it being part of the operating system i would run the system file checker.
Type sfc /scannow in to the 'Run' box (note the space after sfc) and press 'Enter'. This will scan your system for any missing/damaged files and attempt to replace them.

Let us know if this helps

Thanks for your help Vidster! Since posting I have discovered that this file was created by a Tojan virus. Norton deleted the contents (the virus) but could not delete the file in the regristry. Can you tell me exactly how I can manually remove this file from the reference regristry?

    Thanks,
    John

You would need to tell us the name of the virus to give us a better idea how to deal with it. If you wanted too, you could post a Hijack This log in the HJT (hijackthis) forum. One of our security team would then be able to give your system a thorough check
