    msconfig, normal-selective startup

Can you clear something up for me please, hpcmpgr.exe would not close on shutdown, I've removed from startup, but a message asking me to revert to normal startup appeared, am I correct in chooseing to use selective startup and to tell msconfig not to run at startup?

hope you can understand what I mean. :?

msconfig will still run at startup even if you chose a selective startup TDD.
As soon as you uncheck something in your startup list, msconfig will change to selective startup automatically.

The reason your being asked to revert to normal startup is because hpcmpgr.exe runs all your HP multimedia products and some of them will not work without it.

Hope i'm on the right track :?

Thanks Vidster, put it down wrong it's hpcmpmgr.exe, it's HP's way of checking for updates and it says not to disable unless causeing problems, well the perisher is, I hope I did right by telling Windows not to show that message again. Created a System restore point just in case, so if anything goes wrong I can put right, fingers crossed Iv'e not shutdown yet.

Well that type of program and the other utilities it is monitoring hardly ever get any updates anyway. I would have disabled it also
