    create new partition

Is there a way to create a new partition on an existing hard drive using the Windows Install CD? I can't get to a login screen on my current one and so I want to put XP on a new partition of my hard drive, then transfer all my files over to the new partition, which would hopefully let me get into a login screen; but I only created the one partition when I originally did it. So is this even possible? Thanks.

I don't think this is possible without reformatting. The only software that I know of can remove/change a partition without damaging the HD is this.

There is also a program called partition magic, I think It can do it without reformating.

It's a pity it doesn't support NTFS as well I would have definitely given it a go.

Question - what is NTFS? Also, can I do this paritioning modification without being able to log in? How would I go about doing that? Thanks!

NTFS is a "style" the way your hard drive is probably formatted. I am not to sure about that, I don't think so but I'll let someone who is sure, answer your question

I severely doubt this is possible reedk4. Without a doubt in my mind the best thing to do is back up all your valuable data to disks and reformat. During the install process you can create as many partitions as you like.

I recently tried to form a partition using Partition Magic and lost my entire OS. I have now reinstalled with a 10GB c:\ and a 50GB D:\ . I have now moved my 'My Documents' folder over to D:\ as well as installing all my programs etc etc to D:\ as well.
