    Real Address

Was'nt sure where to post this so anyway here goes, whenever I go to a site that offers a service like for example 'shields up' and they display your real ip address on the page, in my case its always wrong infact no site has ever got it right.
Would it be my NIS2005 that is doing this? And if not is it a good or bad thing? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

This is something to do with the way AOL assigns dynamic IP address' kollos (or so i've been told). Your computer's IP address will be different to your internet connection IP address. In fact, your IP address will probably change every time you connect to the internet.

AOL only have so many IP address', far less than the amount of customers they have. Therefore they do not give you your own IP address. When you connect to the internet your computer will send a request for an IP address. AOL will respond and give you any of it's IP address' that are not being used. When you disconnect your IP address will then be placed back in AOL's system and assigned to someone else who connects to the internet.

At least i 'think' that's how it works

[EDIT] I just had a look and you have 18 different IP address' for this forum. Like i said, it probably changes all the time

Thanks for the info Vid. Looking at the ip address in the connection status and then looking at what I was being told confused me.
So looking on a site that reports if my address has been used maliciously would not be any good for me?

That is your local IP that only you and others on your network can see.
