Fatser Black Viper Service Configuration process

    Hi people.

I've made a nice time/labor saving batch file. I don't know about you lot but I really hate having to go through each and every service and changing their startup type every time I re-install windows. So, I have made a batch file that will do it for you. It has all Black Viper's Service configurations as options. I have aslo included Windows XP PRO and Home default Service configurations to fall back on, if needed.

Here are the batch files options:
1: Set Service Configuration to "SAFE" Configuration
2: Set Service Configuration to Power User Configuration
3: Set Service Configuration to Bare Bones Configuration
4: Restore Window XP Pro-SP2 DEFAULT Service Configuration
5: Restore Window XP Home-SP2 DEFAULT Service Configuration
    6: Exit program

Well, what you guys think, any good?

Oh, BTW I call it "Service Manager".

Awesome piece of work Cache

I tried it on the Bare Bones setting and it disabled all my wireless devices so i had to go back and reinstall the default settings.
I had to reinstall the default settings before trying the Safe Settings. Is that part of the design?

This is something i would be interested in hosting on my website in the future if it was OK with you

    Thanks, glad you like it.

Im not 100% sure why the defaults need to be restored after Bare Bones but, I imagen it's to do with the dependencies each service has.

Don't know if you noticed or not but Black Viper's site is down again. I used the following mirror to get the info I needed to make the batch file. I'd suggest for anyone who uses my batch file to have a read on what each configuration does.

Id have no problem with you putting this on your site, Vidster. It would need some documentation making for it though, I think.

That is super nice, Cache! It certainly saves the time of going through all the services. The last time I reformatted, I ignored that part, simply because it is so time consuming! What a brilliant idea...I love it!

First, I tried the "Safe" configuration. Everything was perfect, as it did not affect any programs on the computer. Plus all the GUI features were still there.

Then I tried the 'Power User" configuration. Could not get on the Internet. My ISP dialer asked me to install a modem. And when I went to Control Panel it said "Phone and Modem control panel cannot be opened. You may have a problem starting Telephony service." Apparently, I need the Telephony Service...The dependencies are Remote Procedure Call, Plug and Play and Remote Access Connection Manager.

It is nice that you have the default settings there as well. With a click of a button...everything was back to normal. I will stay with the Safe Configuration.

Thanks for that! It's a super nice tool!

I just tried the power user setting and it made my graphics look too plain for my liking but a simple restore and change to safe setting did the trick again

It might be a good idea to include some notes with reference to what services are being turned off. Like System Restore for one. Best to warn someone before their restore points are deleted.
