    no username option

Hi I know I posted this already to guest thread but now since the website is working I thought I'd post it here too in case others haven't read it! So I apologize if you've already seen this!

Here's exactly what I did to get this mess in first place - I did these things at first because an online forum was trying to help me get Quicktime to install properly!

I went into registry editor ( think it was called ) and told me to go to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT and go to permission (again, I think from what I can remember!) . I was supposed to add "system" and
"admininstrator" if they weren't listed, which they weren't, so I added both and gave "full access" to things, what those things were, I dont know!

That was supposed to let me install Quicktime, but it still didn't work, so I gave up! I then went back into the registry editor and just deleted both the "system" and "administrator". Then next time I rebooted my computer, is where my problem started!

Now am I stuck? Is there any other way to get my files onto another computer without using a username and logging in? Thanks!

Tried to post back to your PM yesterday, but the forum was bonklers...

What you need to do is to slave the hard drive of that computer to another computer, and copy the files you need to that computer, then put the harddrive back in your computer and do a clean install of xp, then when that is done, transfer your files from the other computer back to yours...from what I have read in your PM, that is your best option at this point...

The computer with the problem is a laptop! Will that make it harder to hook up to a desktop? Is there a place where I can get step by step instructions to complete the process, because I have no clue where to begin! Thanks!

A laptop? I dont recall you mentioning that in your post...in that case, your best option is to send it to the manufacturer and tell them you need to remove the hard drive or recover the data from it. you CAN take the drive out, but doing that on a laptop is NOT a job for a novice...sorry.

Would the recovery option when using Windows XP Pro CD Rom help with the problem? I tried to use it before, but can't remember the password! I bought it off of someone else. Or is it a lost cause now?

Yeah, I have tried that too! No luck. Would that even work if I recovered the password?

I used a password retrieval site listed from within the site you gave me and it returned that the admin password was blank, however when i put it as blank into the windows xp cd rom recovery option, it doesn't work! any clues?
