Long time no see eh?![]()
Anyways, have a really big problem and totally not sure how to fix this. My bf was trying to get some MidAddle stuff of his pc, there was 4 temp files that we couldn't delete or if we did delete them they kept coming back. So this one website said try going into safemode to delete them. He tried rebooting and pressing F8 to bring up the bootscreen to get into safemode, it didn't even have the safemode option.
So I read on this one site to go into msconfig--> boot options and check off safemode bootup or something like that under the Boot tab. Low and behold, I didn't know that he couldn't get into safe mode on his user name, not sure if it's an admistrator pswd or what.
This is a company computer but seems so far since he has owned it he has done, or I have done all the repairs on it when it messes up or gets spyware. He phoned a few ppl at work and is at work now trying to fix it. Said he phoned Toshiba and they said the only option is reformatting.
But isn't there ANY way to get into msconfig from bootup screen, DOS, Bios or anything to uncheck that option or get it to boot up into normal mode. Even when you hit F8 after restarted, and it says boot into normal mode, it still boots into safe mode:eyespop: I'm ready to pull my hair out and well I think he's a little ticked off that this happened, but hey I didn't know either LoL.
Anyway hope you ole fellows can help me out![]()
Great to see you posting again SK!
I'm going on a 'hunt' to hopefully find a cure right now![]()

Did you try booting from the 'Last Known Good Configuration'? And did XP come pre-installed on the computer? (does he have full XP disk or just a restore disk)
Yes I tried booting from the last known good configuration but he didn't have the XP cd, only a restore disk which would totally over write and delete everything that is currently on it. I'm wondering if just any XP disk would work to put it back to last known good config??? :-kOriginally Posted by Vidster
XP was pre-installed.....
Hello Kim,
Yup that would work any XP CD as long as it's a Home CD if you have Home and vice-versa. Could you post your boot.ini file please?
Hmmm... So what is happening when you boot in to safe mode? Are you being asked for the Administrator password? If so did you try leaving it blank or admin or Admin or Administrator or Toshiba.
Has he asked at work for the Admin password?
Post MY boot.ini file? I'm not on the pc that won't start in normal mode, I'm on a different computer. And does the XP cd have to be a bootable copy of xp cuz I tried one but it's from years ago when you needed the 6 boot up disks :eyespop:Originally Posted by Tyler

Hmm, weird. All XP CDs should be bootable nowdays. I would try and make a boot disk (MS-DOS Disk), boot it, then cd to the C:\ directory and take a gander at the boot.ini file. If it is as simple as a admin password reset, NTPasswd should do the trick
Or burn This to a CD. Boot the problem PC from it and change the Admin password to anything you want.
