Hi,



I need to do some major clean up on my in-laws PC. She is infected with Trojans etc.

It would be real handy if I could do this from my house. I thought I read something, somewhere, sometime ago that a person could gain access to another’s computer from a different location. We both have an E-machines with WXP SP1 and we are both currently using a cable modem.

If this is possible for me, can someone give me instructions on how to do this?

Remote Desktop would be the easiest.

What I think you mean is " Remote Assistance " I've never done this but look in Help and Support and key in Remote Assistance in search, it explains it quite well.

Another name for it. In Windows XP it is Remote Desktop.

Communication
Remote Desktop Connection

When connecting to someone's computer this way. Is there any chance of receiving the viruses or bad stuff that they are infected with, on their computer? Can it cross over to my computer?

It is possible but highly unlikely. But I'm not exactly sure .

THAT IS A GOOD QUESTION.............I CAN ONLY SEE IT HAPPENING IF YOU WERE TO TRANSFER AN INFECTED FILE FROM THEIR COMPUTER????????

Yah, or if you ran the file on their computer but it infects your memory then transfers to your own computer.
