Unhappy limited OS blank email, norton open as blank

Recently my computer was full of ad aware & spy ware. i cleaned it with many programs like adaware se, Spybot and whatever Norton could do, all that with no great success. I got another spy ware program called PBS which did clean very well. I uninstalled the PBS and clicked YES (to delete) TO ALL for the other files associate with that program which were shared but not used as the message said. :bigcry: The next thing happen was:
    1) in yahoo mail I cannot delete at once the junk folder. I must open the folder and manually delete those emails. 2) in Outlook Express I see the incoming email titles but cannot read them, the bottom is blank, it show that the email still downloading but nothing really happen. 3) I can not open Norton AV a window will open and it also totally blank, window security center acknowledge the AV is ON.
in general it look that I cant open tables, like in yahoo mail, I try to open the address book it will open the first page only, it will not proceed to other pages.
I think I’ll stop here. Any idea?

First off....Welcome to the forum tamidshar

I would perform a system restore back to the last date you can remember everything working properly.
    SYSTEM RESTORE:
    Start>All programs> Accessories>System tools>System restore.

If this works, you will no doubt have most of your spyware back as well. Next, reboot your pc in to safe mode.
    SAFE MODE:
Press f8 repeatedly while starting your pc. When the boot screen appears select 'safe mode'.

Now update Ad-aware and Spybot search and destroy and run them from safe mode. Run your antivirus from safe mode as well.
Also run these on-line scans in safe mode.......Panda active scan and Windows security trojan scan.
Let them fix anything they find and your pc should be clean ;-).
If you are still having problems, get back in touch and we'll try something else.

Let us know how you get on!.....Good Luck

first....thanks for the warm welcome, its great to be here.... system restore was turned off for the duration of my spyware problem, so no restore point available, and on top of that when i open system restore now (its back ON ) i get also a blank page. no calander and no info at all. BTW i have other computer in the house on home network which work fine. i tried to open outlook express on the other computer but cannot see the past few days email. thanks again, tamidshar.

You have deleted shared dlls by Norton and others. I really dislike Norton as it insinuates itself into everything.

Your best bet is to uninstall Norton for the time being and using the sfc scannow command to restore necessary files. If that dosn't work a repair install will work assuming you have a windows cd for both methods.

You can reinstall Norton later or ask here for much better alternatives that will be free.

I found this. It looks like it will solve your system restore problem ;-)

If you open System Restore and try to choose a restore point but the calendar is missing, it's probably the Hypertext Markup Language Component associatiion (.htc) that is missing or corrupt.

Cut and paste everyting below into notepad, save it as a .reg file, and then double-click on it and let it put the information into the registry:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\.htc]
    "Content Type"="text/x-component"
    @="htcfile"

    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\MIME\Database\Content Type\text/x-component]
    "CLSID"="{3050f4f8-98b5-11cf-bb82-00aa00bdce0b}"
    "Extensi on"=".htc"

    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{3050f4f8-98b5-11cf-bb 82-00aa00bdce0b}]
    @="Microsoft Html Component"
    [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{3050f4f8-98b5-11cf-bb82-00aa00bdce0b}\InProcServer32]
    @="C:\\WINDOWS\\System32\\mshtml.dll"
    "ThreadingModel"="A partment""

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\.htc]
    "Content Type"="text/x-component"
    @="htcfile

Glad you got your computer fixed tamidshar .

Norton works fine for lots of people but i read every day about people having problems with it. I received the full Norton package when i recently bought a laptop and i uninstalled it straight away. Instead i use AVG7 antivirus and Sygate personal firewall.
They are both free, use very little resources and have never let me down.

    Good luck!
