Is the CD dirty? I would try cleaning it.

I am going to add something that sounds really silly here but trust me it does work!.

If you have a CD/DVD that won't play:
Take it to the sink and smother it in washing up liquid. Now give it a gentle rub with your finger and rinse the washing up liquid off (be sure to remove all the liquid). Now dry the disk, preferably leave it to dry naturally.
Now stick it in the freezer for 15 mins.......That's right! stick it in the freezer for 15 mins.
Now leave the disk to thaw out to room temperature and away you go.

I have done this loads of times with various CD's and it works a treat

Hey Vidster very interesting, i will remember that..It does sound like a dirty disc that is causing the problem. Or a damaged disc sadly.

If by damaged you mean scratched scouse, there is always hope with that too!. As long as the metal strip running through the middle of the disk is not scratched, it should be repairable

If it is a corrupted disk then there is not much hope i'm afraid

well Vidster you are probably right, it's damaged or dirty, belongs to my 12 year old nephew and the way he treats CD's is criminal. Will give the washing up liquid and freezer a go and let you know how I go on.

    Thank's.
