Should I install SP2

you are asking yourself this question the answer is no. It is a nightmare to the average user. Like when XP was new it is very hard to make software work correctly. Downloading and web site browsing become a major adventure. SP2 is more then a Hotfix or patch it is a system overhaul and software vendors are having to play catch up and patch or in some cases make completely new versions of software that are compatible. I have it on my personal machine now because i was trying it again to see what all could be done. My messengers seem to be having alot of trouble, AIM has the most problems. I know alot of this is my settings....but i am having to get used to a new system and keep up with work and family. if you do not want to install SP2 the best thing is to disable automatic updates and use the Microsoft site to update often using a custom install to get all the other patches they release. Once you have SP2 you will have to leave auto updates on because you will not be able to use the MS update site with it disabled.

any problems you have feel free to post them here and someone may be able to hellp you out.

This is a new site so i am posting things in "how to" or Tech tips" threads so search engines will start picking up the site.

This is good to know. That with SP2 you will not be able to do custom installs . I prefer to choose which updates to download.

I do not quite follow you. Do you mean if you install SP2, it will stop working?

well alot of people seem to have problems once they have installed sp2, and as posted in another thread software developers are struggling to update some products and in some cases are having to redevelop there products to work after sp2 installation

True. I used to have problems with SP2 also. However, many problems has been fixed in my opinion. But it doesn't lay with Microsoft anymore but whereas the software developers. I am now running SP2 without any previous problems I once had.

I've got sp2 installed on both my pc's with hardly any problems.
I did full spyware, virus and trojan scans. I also did a disk defragmentation in safe mode before installing.
On one of the pc's i found a file had been pinned to the start list (easily removed in msconfig). No problems at all with the second pc .

Running SP2 here, and although I had a few minor problems, it was nothing I couldn't fix simply.

I DO think the best way to install SP2 is as a clean install or upgrade, made with the full network version of SP2+your SP1 disk slipstreamed.

Only my opinion, but I think there is something about SP2 that likes the clean install.

I agree with Viktoria. I have no problems with sp2 on two different machines.
