Getting it going
-
I thought I would get this going. Windows XP or Linux or any other variation of Windows or Unix/Linux.
Which one do you like more? Why?

Before 2003 my computer experience was very limited. Therefore virtually all of my experience has been with windows XP. I find it easy to navigate and i like the way it almost looks after the user.
I guess this means i vote for XP and XP Pro

I have tried 98,ME, and XP
I would say XP is better

I boot XP and Mandrake 9.2...i use mandrake to keep my files on, and do a bit of work... it is a bit more secure and does not have to be reloaded every so often like XP. I boot xp because you have to have windows to play most games and surf the net...(WINE SUCKS ON LINUX)
you hear good and bad about everything, it is personal taste and setups. the reason people say 2K is the "BEST" windows os is because it is the one the fewest people have and usually the ones that do have it know how to use a computer. XP is faster, more stable and flexible then 2K. I have tried many test that all point to the same answer. i will not argue with someone that says one way or the other, i dont care, i know what the numbers say. i have used all windows os, linux has so many distros i have not had the time. If you think XP sucks it is because, either you dont know how to set it up and use it, or you have a system that should not be running it anyway...like a 333mhz celeron with 64 megs of ram. I agree XP does things i do not like, and has many places for improvement, but if you used the older systems you can not help but see the difference (AGAIN, if you know how to use it.)

I have used 98SE, which imo is and was quite a stable system. WindowsME and I parted company quite fast, but not before I beat the thing and won the battle.
Win2000 was smooth for me. It was reliable, and light.
XP, it has it's ups and downs........love/hate relationship. But I have almost conquered the SP2 problems [yes, I took the plunge and slipstreamed], which makes me feel confident that SP2 "will" eventually be more stable then SP1-A.
If I could have a choice right now, it would be Win2000 that looked like WinXP, and contained a few of the XP features, then again, that can sound rather stupid, as perhaps 2000 would then become XP.
IMO, 2000 for performance wins right now.

Yah. Microsoft in my opion realeased XP for the money. They said
"Hey, look over here see Win2000 with worse stablity and a 'new look' yah it's compltety different go out and buy it" Now of course, they didn't say that, but they could have...
