I have a friend with a computer that will not see what's on a drive. You put a CD in a drive, and it tells you to put a cd in the drive. Ideas?

The first thing to try is to remove the optical drive in Device Manager. Reboot the machine and Windows will "Found new hardware" and reinstall the optical drive with new resources.
