Computer died`
Hi there, wondering if anyone can help as our home computer seems a bit ill. When I switch it on it makes all the normal sounds and the power light comes on then it makes a few beeping noises and that's it. Nothing appears on the screen although there is power to the screen. I have done all the usual unplugging of everything but still nothing. I'm hoping its something simple. The pc is approx 4 yrs old.
THANKS

Unfortunately, you told us nothing about the computer.
Please provide make and model.
The beeps can be telling. How many beeps? Is there a pattern to them such as 3 longs, or 1 long and 2 shorts?
Does anything appear on the screen in the beginning of the boot process?

Hi there, thanks for responding ... the computer is a Tiny one, not sure of the model to be honest, it's my son's computer which my dad bought him years ago ... I think Tiny are out of business now .. anyway .... when you switch it on it just does one long beep and then it's just the usual sound of the hard drive. The monitor shows nothing although the power light is on.

Tiny did go out of business some time ago.
One long beep could mean several things, depending on what BIOS that motherboard uses. And without it running, you can't run a program to find out. Someone would need to inspect the motherboard and mounted devices for markings or labels, if any. Then maybe figure out from there what one long beep means.
If me, I would want to ensure I had good power first, so I would try another, known good power supply, or have that one properly tested by a trained technician. If you still have the problem after that, then I would suspect the RAM, or the motherboard itself, and that is not good.
If more than one stick of RAM, you could try with just one at a time. This requires unplugging the computer from the wall, discharging static in your body by touching bare metal of the case, and carefully removing all but one stick, then swapping in and out using the same steps until all are tested.

thanks for replying .... big help ... never thought to plug it into a different socket .... i tried this and everything is fine now ... no beeping or anything. I originally had it plugged into a power surger, the monitor is also plugged into this also. Not sure why the pc doesn't work when plugged into this but anyway it's working and that's the main thing.
Cheers for taking the time anyway .. I'd be lost if it wasn't for this site.

Great! I am glad you got it going. I might suggest you look into an UPS with AVR, and dump the surge strip.
