drivers for graphics and mouse acts as though i'm double clicking.

Hi, I was trying to fix my drivers after getting a new hard drive. I wrote to biostar and they told me to test my memory. I'm just wondering how i do that? Is there a test or do i have to install something? I asked them how to do that and they just repeated their reply. If I have to install something is there a safe program out there that is free? Thanks for any help, here is the link to my specs. Also, I am having a problem when I single click things it acts as though I'm double clicking so I end up with two browsers open or in my w.o.w. game it won't open my bags cuz it thinks i'm clicking it once to open and again to close. Thanks for any help

Well other than your mouse, you aren't saying what your problem is nor have you said why you where told to test your memory. We need more info about what is going on.

As for the mouse, for control panel click on mouse. Try turning the Double Click Speed down. If that doesn't do it do you have another mouse to try? Your average 3 button mouse shouldn't be that much.

oops sorry, I had an error after i installed nvidia, I got the error message "The driver nv4_disp for the display device \Device\Video0 got stuck in an infinite loop. This usually indicates a problem with the device itself or with the device driver programming the hardware incorrectly. Please check with your hardware device vendor for any driver updates."

I had tried to roll back but it didn't seem to do anything. I didn't know if I should uninstall and try again or what. When I had gotten the error i was playing world of warcraft and my computer had to be shutdown. I still get instances where the full screen will get bright and I get long like polygons of images come up in the game and I can't use my controls to either move or get out of the game. My controls are down to low. I had tried them on high before i got the error but I don't dare do that now. The only thing that i found written on my motherboard is M7VIG400REV:7.3 JAGP1.

I'm not sure why they said to check my memory at all. do you need more info? They gave me a link to find a driver but seriously I don't know know what I'm looking for and I don't want to mess anything up.

Thanks for any help, let me know if you need more info.

Oh and I turned the double click down and I'll try it out a little bit to see if that helps with my mouse.

    Huh?

We don't need to know why you were told test RAM and it is pretty obvious Biostar has no clue either and probably just following the checklist. And whether we know why or not, it does not change how one tests RAM, which is what you wanted to know.

You can test RAM using one of the following programs. Both require you to create and boot to a bootable floppy disk or CD to run the diagnostics. Using the floppy method is generally easier (and another reason to include floppy drives in new builds). However, the CD method is just as effective at detecting RAM problems. Allow the diagnostics to run for several passes or even overnight. You should have no reported errors.
Windows Memory Diagnostic - see the easy to follow instructions under Quick Start Information.
    or
MemTest86+ (for more advanced users) - an excellent how-to guide is available here.
Alternatively, you could install a single RAM module and try running with that to see if it fails. Repeat process with remaining modules, hopefully identifying the bad stick through a process of elimination.

As for the mouse, assuming it used to work fine and you (or another user of that computer) did not mess with the settings already, I advise you DON'T mess with the settings now. We wont to find what caused the double-click problem to develop. Changing settings only treats the symptom.

I agree to first try another mouse. It is quite possible the button return spring in your current mouse is weak, and it is clicking twice. Does it double-click every time?

    Have you scanned for malware?

You got your reply in while I was typing. Again, the reason why they told you to check memory does not matter. This might or might not be a RAM problem, and in any event, whether they are simply following a check list, or actually suspect RAM, the methods to test RAM are the same.

Your description of the problem does point to graphics drivers so I would make sure you have the current from your card maker (or motherboard maker for on-board graphics) and NOT directly from nVidia. You say sometimes the controls are "too low" - do you mean they are off the bottom of the screen? That would indicate a resolution problem. That could be drivers, or limitations in the card or monitor. Did this combination of graphics card and monitor work fine with these games before the new hard drive? If not, you might try another monitor.

Thank you Digerati for replying, when I said my controls in game are down to low, they have settings for high graphics so that all aspects are hightend and then they have them for low where you don't see too much graphics. I had had them set to high at first, just trying out the graphics and then I had the error so I set them lower until I could get the problem fixed. The update I did do was the was from nvidia. I just clicked on the thing that checked my puter for the recommended one. I did try to search for the one at biostar but with all the numbers and whatnot I was getting really confused. When I had written to biostar I had asked them what one I needed and they sent me a link and pretty much told me to look. I have some learning difficulties and can't decipher sometimes what I need. So understandably they are doing their job, it just didn't help me lol. I know that my problem with the drivers is most likely the graphic driver since thats where it originated and I was thrown off by what biostar suggested. Before I got the new hard drive I never tried my graphics on high on the game so I don't know if the RAM would have any problems with anything.

I have tried to make a cd-rom before because we were trying to see what was wrong with my puter before, but it turned out to be that my hard drive was failing. (it had that clicking going on) I didn't think it could be anything else. Is a CD-R the same as a CD-ROM? Cuz everytime I had tried to save something to a disk it never said that anything was on the disk. When I buy a disk does it have to say CD-ROM? I'll have to wait till the first of the month to get one. Thank you for any help, I really do appreciate it.

Don't sell yourself short. Biostar is in the business of selling computer hardware, not fixing it.

ROM = Read Only Memory. So a CD ROM would be like a music CD you buy from the store, you can only read the data, not write to it. CD-R is a "WORM" device meaning you "write once, read many". And CD-RW is a write many, read many device. So, to create a CD, you need a device that will write to recordable CDs.

Before I got the new hard drive I never tried my graphics on high
Okay, then that is not the same off the bottom of the screen thing I was talking about. You typically would use "High" when you have a powerful graphics card.
