No sound after format!!!
Hello, i'm new here and my english isn't very good. Now my problem is that my old computer was full of viruses and spyware so i let my step dads co-worker reinstall the windows again. and he installed Windows xp service pack 3. now i didn't have no problem with the sound when i had the old service pack 2. but now i have no sound what so ever. i tried installing drivers but still no sound. everything looks like it should work. in the device manager it says everything is working and installed, but still i have no sound. everything is plugged in correctly. i have a realtek AC97 or smth like that. Ive really tried almost everything i don't understand wtf is going on. Any advice what should i do``??

Is the device enabled in the BIOS setup menu?
-
"in the device manager it says everything is working and installed, but still i have no sound."
If Device Manager shows the device, it's enabled in the bios.
The first thing to try is to remove/delete the device in Device Manager, then reboot the machine. If everything is present, the setup will assign the proper settings again.

Ok now i uninstalled the audio driver. The uninstall seemed to go well. My computer rebooted after the uninstall and later when i went to device manager, the device is still there!!! Im going out of my mind here

"later when i went to device manager, the device is still there!"
Because Windows found and reinstalled it.
If it's again listed with "no problems", double check all cables/connections. If it still doesn't work,,,,
Download, install, and run Everest Home Edition on this machine.
(Clean FreeWare) Once it's finished loading and running, look under (Sound) Multimedia, or, under Multimedia, PCI / PnP Audio. This will tell you what sound devices you have available on your system. Post that information.

under multimedia PCI/PnP Audio it says i have a VIA VT1616i @ VIA AC'97 Enhanced Audio Controller PCI
