screen flicker nvidia geforce 8 series
Hi,
I have a strange occurance of screen flickering on my new PC. It seems to happen under certain conditions, but it is a bit odd.
When the desktop is showing and I move the mouse pointer to the topmost part of the screen, the screen flickers.
Playing a video in BBC Iplayer is ok, but when it is in full screen it flickers
I tested D3D and direct draw using the dxdiag tool and it all passes, but if I disable them, the flicker is gone.
I've updated the drivers to latest and directX to v10 (same problem with v9 too)
I've only got 3 refresh rates available (59, 60, 75). at 75 I can't see anything at all it is just a random mess.
I've got a wide screen LCD monitor which would normally (with my previous pc) be set at 1440 x 900). That res woks fine exept for flickering. If I change to 1024x768 (wich is stretched on this monitor) the flickering does not occur.
Any Ideas?

Sadly, you told us nothing about the computer, other than it is new, which means it should be under warranty and you should be dealing with their tech support. This could still be a driver issue, or a problem with the graphics hardware, failing power supply, heat - or more, making troubleshooting difficult.
I would try another monitor too.

There is no warranty. I built it myself.

Hmmm, I see you edited your replay and removed the comment that you already listed the components. I guess you edited it because you realized that is not the case, but we still don't have a clue what HW we are dealing with, the OS, or anything else. Without knowing what we are talking about, it is hard, at best, to help you.
On problems with brand new builds, what I generally recommend is to take everything out of the case and set the computer up on a wooden breadboard, or the like and see if it runs fine out the case. Before reinstalling, make 200% sure there are not extra standoffs under the board shorting circuits.
Did you use, TIM?
