    Video card bad?

ok, I have a HP Pavilion zv5000 that had a prob with the dc jack being loose. While it as loose, it sparked and shortly after I got the jack fixed. But now the screen is blank and will not come on and will not work with an external monitor either. So then I got a new motherboard and installed it. But still nothing has changed. could it be the video card? if it is, how much do one of those go for, if not, what could be the prob?

Notebook motherboards typically have integrated graphics so replacing the motherboard would have replaced the graphics/video card too. I don't see on HP where your notebook uses a separate card.

It sounds like to me as though the power supply is bad, or the regulator circuits in the notebook. Who installed the motherboard? You should take it back and tell them to fix it right.

haha! I put the motherboard in, and I also got a new power cord too. What could cause there to be no picture on screen or on external monitor?

The same thing I said before - it sounds like the power supply is bad, or the internal regulator circuits, if they are no part of the motherboard.

Short of taking it to a shop, you are limited to trying another power supply, if you can find the right one. There are universal supplies, but I have no personal experience with them. As far as any internal damage, that would require a technician. Sorry there's little more I can offer for notebooks.
