Question Downgrading from Vista Home to XP Pro

I have a Sony VGN-NS20e Laptop that came pre-installed with vista. I decided to downgrade to XP Pro as i cannot stand Vista.
After booting from the XP pro CD. It get half way through loading the drivers, before i even get a chance to format and partition, I get this blue screen message:

A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to you computer.

If this is the first time you've seen this message..........etc. (I'm sure you all know the message)

    Technical information:
    ***stop: 0x0000007B (0xF78D2524,0xc0000034.0x00000000,0x00000000)

Searching the net. I read Sata drivers mentioned among other things.
    Can anybody help?

XP cannot install without the manufacturers SATA drivers.

Nor will it function without other drivers which Sony probably does not offer.

Rather than downgrade; upgrade to Windows 7.
