Plz help 'Dell GX270' compatibility with ATI RADEON HD4350 VGA

    Hi there
Plz tell me if i can install an "ATI RADEON HD4350 VGA DVI HDMI PCI-E LOW PROFILE" video/graphics card in a DELL GX270. I know that i need a VGA card, and it has to be LOW PROFILE size but i am not sure if the GX270 mother board will be able to handle a 512mb graphics card... at the moment the memory is 512MB in the motherboard, would you recommend i upgrade it to 2GB before i install Video/graphics card?

You can find dell GX270 Specs here "http://www.dell.com/downloads/us/products/optix/gx270_spec.pdf" and advise me

    Plz reply soon thankyou

According to the Dell manual here Dell Optiplex GX270 Manual, the system board does not have a PCI-E slot, only an AGP (9) and a PCI (10) slot.

I know that I can only install a 'VGA card' but i need to know if the Dell GX270 motherboard is powerful enough? Will it run smoothly? Plz clarify a bit, if you know
    Thank for the reply

According to Rich you have an AGP slot but you are asking if a card for a PCI express slot can go in your motherboard and the answer is no as the 2 slots are not compatible. Does that make sense? You have to look for an AGP Card [Newegg].

That's a PCI-E card, so the answer is no as the system board does not have a PCI-E slot. If you are asking if you can install a straight PCI card then yes, but an AGP card would be a better choice.

For info on which ones will work for you, I'd suggest posting in our hardware forum

    Hi Ztrucker
i know i must get a VGA Card that is LOW PROFILE but i m not sure if my PC will run smoothly after installation... ?? I can play games like stronghold and maxpayne just fine by only using 512MB virtual memory but i though why not put a 512 graphc VGA card in n make it more PWRFul...
Neverthless i must give it a go. Thanks 4ur reply guys

I don't entirely understand what you mean? Why are you comparing it to virtual memory? Graphics cards have their own dedicated memory so they don't use virtual memory.

As for running a game better what do you currently have? if it is integrated then a card would probably be better HOWEVER you only have an AGP slot and those cards don't perform as well as those for a PCIe slot but I looked up those games and it looked like a card for a AGP slot would run just fine just as long as you got a card with at 128 mb dedicated ram. A card for an AGP slot would have trouble with some of the newer games and wouldn't be able to run some of the newest.

Just to note: don't let VGA (Video Graphics Array) confuse you.

It has nothing to do with your slot.

As noted you need an AGP card. It needs to be Low Profile plus it needs a Half size mounting bracket plus it needs to run under a 200 watt PSU.

    So to relist:

    AGP 8X/4X

    Low Profile

    Half Bracket

    -will run under 200 watts.
