hi all,

my pc is 4 years old, every time i switch it on now though it takes ages to start up. it makes a dreadful whirring sound constantly!

i recently bought an external hard drive to store photos, documents etc thinking this would rectify the problem but no such luck.

i have bt total broadband which should be fast but it takes ages.

any advice or help gratefully accepted.

Hi and welcome to D-A-L.

You need to determine what is making the sound. If it is a fan motor starting to seize, you risk overheating critical components and destroying your computer. If it is drive motor starting to seize, you risk losing the drive and all your data on it.

You need to poke your head inside and see where the noise is coming from. Make sure the interior is clean of heat trapping dust and dirt.
