Windows xp is installing slowly?
Need help to figure out why it is going so slowly.
-
What exactly are you doing?
A Clean Install?
A Repair Install?
An OEM CD?
An MS CD?
Please expand on your problem.
A typical Repair or Clean Install of XP will run @ 43 minutes after the first reboot.

a clean install had to install a previous os to get it going since it was an upgrade but even the windows mellenium that i did install was as slow. Its been about 8 hours now and it still is going for the xp install.
-
and this is only the 2nd reboot of the system

An upgrade XP CD does not require a previous version to be installed.
It asks you to insert a previous CD (Win ME) just to verify that you have it.
You do not want to install Windows ME.
I'd suggest starting over and point to your drive then instruct to Format.
You will be told you are over riding an OS etc. just say C or F or what is offered there.
If you still have problems please state why you are reinstalling?
Is this an old computer?
Have you tested the hard drive?
-
Ive done a check disk on a resource disk and it said it was fine. Also when i just put the xp disk in when the hard drive was cleared of everything it wouldnt boot up at all and i changed the boot sequence to ide-cd it said it wasn't a boot cd or something like that.

its a 4 year old computer running a pentium 4 processor with 1.5 gigs of RAM

Can you identify the source of the XP CD?
Is it a Microsoft CD?
If not how is it labeled?
Is it the Recovery CD that came with the computer?
What is the make and model of the computer?
Have you tried a Live CD such as Ubuntu?
-
think that the reformat could have caused a problem and now is causing it to make the download slow?

How large is your hard drive? What is the maximum speed of your CD drive?
