Well that doesn't seem to be a very good idea to me. They are risking the loss if they don't do backups but I can imagine it being really time consuming to do regular backups on all of the systems. I wasn't referring to specialized systems like a cash register but desktops.

Of course it's not a good idea if the machine is not used in that application.

What backups? As I said, almost no data is stored locally. All the important stuff is done on the server.

I know - that's why said them. Understand those motherboards and PCs are often the very same home users use. You have to look at the big picture. Most home users would never use Wake on LAN or Wake on Modem either, yet those features are options in virtually every BIOS.

But regardless, this should not have happened without some user intervention - either by setting the process up in the event of a failure, or by some manual selection during a failure.

First and foremost, another problem I was having was some files were being created and removed without any user interference.

Upon a restart it showed a loading screen with numerous errors and detailed the system crash and then redirected me to system restore.

Without knowing the errors or system crash details, I can't offer any advice - except it sound like chkdsk might have run and found some errors.

Files are created and removed all the time - it depends on what the file is that matters. Do you have any examples?

Like a bunch of programs and whatnot, and a few files in my D drive which of some I cannot even access so I had to run my startup disk after system restore.

What programs & what files [types]? Personal files or temporary files? Temporary files come and go. Restoring is a last resort because it is so destructive. Given the chance we might have been able to help you fix the problem but whats done is done. It does give you a fresh start.

    Yes it does.

Personal files, temporary files I'm not worried about, I'm caught on computer stuff.

But I was worried because personal files were being moved and deleted and then from program files to restoration files, and then it got to the point were from it wouldn't fully load from the HDD so I had to load it from the start up disk.
