What verbatim errors do you receive?

How? Are you sure, your computer is 100% clean?

A semi-solution is to install them from a manual download. SP3 & .net framework. Now I don't know about .net framework but Sp3 won't just install on its own but you have to agree to the terms of use and tell it to install. Maybe thats where you are going wrong. For Sp3 I know that the download works because thats what I have done.

I worked with Broni on the Anti Spyware Malware Site for over a week to get rid of Mal-ware, Spyware and viruses. According to Broni the machine was clean.
My machine is a Dell Dimension 2350 with and Intel Pentium 4 CPU 2.2 Ghz and 768 MB of RAM. The only operating system I am running is Microsoft Windows XP SP2.

I was able to Install Microsoft Net Framework directly from the download site but I still could not install Windows XP SP3 directly from the internet download.

The error message I get during installation reads:

Service Pack 3 Setup could not backup registry key
    HKCR\ADOX.Catalog 2.8
to file C:\windows\$NTServicePackUninstall$\reg00761 .5 Access is denied

I retryed to update the files it hung on, when retry did not work I recorded the file that it could not update. I finally just gave up and hit cancel.

The other files it hung on were the exact same message except file name was

    \reg00762.5, 763.5, 764.5 765.5 and 766.5

Please let me know what you think I can do to resolve this install issue.

    Thanks for your help.

    John

Disable ZA, and AVG, and try again.

Your problem has to do with file and registry permissions. Read this article for more info and instructions. Broni is correct that 3td party software especially, anti-malware,can cause these problems but this is in case disabling the software doesn't in itself work.

What I find strange is that I had both AVG and ZA installed when I installed SP3 and I didn't have any problems. I don't remember if I even disabled anything. With your anti-virus disabled I suggest that you physically disconnect from the internet.
