Resolution problem
i'm not sure this is the right forum or not? my 13 month old was pressing buttons (or smashing his hands on the keyboard i should say lol).. he was on the right hand side of the laptop, and now the resolution on my computer is stretched really wide and i can't figure out how to fix it! I tried ctrl panel>display but my settings are the same (1024 x 768) which is my preferred setting, but everything is stretched wayyyyy out horizontally!
could you point me in the right direction if this isnt the correct forum? Thanks!!

I'm assuming you have rebooted PC. Sometimes there are spcific keys you press on the laptop to possibly change the resolution. Try looking on your keyboard towards the top and look for somthing that looks like a monitor or screen. You might have to press the Function key (Fn). Try a combination of those keys. You could also get your child to play with it again, you never know, he/she might be able to get it back. Then enroll he/she in MIT.

yeah rebooting didnt work.. and i am leery of pressing any more buttons unless i know it will not make it worse!! lol. I tried the fn + f5, since its the only one i can see that has anything close to a monitor or computer on it... one setting changed it smaller, another changed my screen to black! so i'm gonna wait til someone knows what to do!! lol
and i tried letting him play with it again... no MIT for this kid lol.

What is the exact make and model of the laptop?

Toshiba Satellite A100
BIOS Ver. 2.0
Windows XP professional (5.1, 2600)

You are correct that Fn + F5 brings up your basic Display Options.
The first choice should be what you want. Built-in display only
If this is set and the problem persists I would suspect a different wide screen option.
Let us know if you are set at Built-in display only

it is set on the first option.

Just as a test, if you don't mind, try a different screen resolution and see if the "stretch" is removed.

i DID try to change it to all the diff options.. one shrunk it but made it kinda too small and looked like a type writer font? if that makes sense lol. I am not sure which one did it though, and a couple more turned my monitor black so i am kinda leery on doing it again. Did that info help?

There are a few issues just like yours found in a Google search but no resolution besides changing resolution. The basic consensus is that your display was set to widescreen yet Toshiba lists no documentation on such a setting.
I would suggest a System Restore to a point prior to your problem.
Go to start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > System Restore
Here choose a date and Restore Point prior to your problem.
The computer will reboot and set the registry back to that point.
This will not remove any data since the point but will remove any new programs you might have installed.
