I am having problems with a third party app and considering using ERUNT to reset the computer to prior to when it started misbehaving.
If I do this will I have to reinstall any apps I installed in the intervening period?
And in a related question, is it possible to tweak Add/Remove Programs so it shows the date an application was added? It does this for Windows updates and it would be handy to know for all applications installed, for situations such as when Jephree asks "when did you install x?"![]()
Most likely, yes. ERUNT, as System Restore deals with registry, and most installed programs (except for very simple ones) have registry entries, which are gonna be removed, when you'll use ERUNT.If I do this will I have to reinstall any apps I installed in the intervening period?
As for your other question, Vista has that feature, but XP doesn't.
Probably your best bet is to open Windows Explorer, and look at "Date Modified" of program's exe file.

Have you tried a system restore point? What program are you having trouble with and in what way?
Okay,
Firstly Broni, that seems to be one way of finding out the dates, think I will uninstall before I do the ERUNT restore.
Secondly townsbg, the problem is with dBpoweramp Music Converter. For a few days now it has been wiping all ID3 tags when I attempt to use the convert to function to add cover art to downloaded files.
I have contacted them on their forum and am awaiting a response, if they suggest a "tweak" that solves the problem that would be the easiest solution, otherwise an ERUNT restore will probably solve it, just wanted to know whether any recently installed apps would be affected before I try that, hence the original post.
Thanks all, will post again when I have progress to report.![]()
Using a system restore point to a time before you started to have your problem might take care of it and those can be reversed if need be. It didn't look to me that an ERUNT restore is reversible but I don't know the software like you do. I would back up your registry with regedit before monkeying around with the registry with 3rd party software. Start menu --> run --> regedit --> file --> export. Make sure export range is set to all, give desired name, browse to desired location and hit save.
Good idea,
However I think with ERUNT if restoring the registry to an earlier time doesn't work I would still have the backup of the more recent registry settings. ERUNT makes a backup each time you start the computer, it saves them for a (default) 30 days, longer if you want to.
That said, where the registry is concerned it doesn't hurt to be cautious, otherwise it is reinstall Windows, which I am kind of over.![]()
Yeah, with ERUNT, you can go back, and forth, by selecting any dates, you want.
Minor note: ERUNT makes backups daily, not every time you restart computer.
You can also make a manual backup.
Hi Broni,
Good point about ERUNT allowing you to go back and forth, the other feature in its favor is that it (claims) to take significantly less space than a Restore Point.
And just so you know I had the computer running continuously for a few days earlier this month and I have no back up for those two days (sounds like Lucinda Williams!, although I think her song was Those Three Days).
Which reminds me, why am I sitting here and there is no music playing?![]()
